restful productivity to live deliberately & avoid overwhelm

My Burnout Breakthrough: Embracing Less for a Fuller Life w/Joanna Bischoff

Sharing my story and the catalyst for change in my life. [& short video clip]

Before I hit burnout I tried to fix things by reading stacks of productivity books written by business executives. As an overachiever, I love trying new productivity tools and reading non-fiction to gather ideas.

I tried to add to my already overwhelming life with a variety of solutions.

But after my transformative experience in London, I figured out that the answer was SUBTRACTION not addition.

I switched to learning about rest and slowing down.

Rest is something that I have struggled with for a long time. It did not come easily to me. I had to rethink and redefine my definition of a productive day. I had to restructure my weekends and weekday schedule to make space for downtime.

More than anything, I had to change my expectations of myself.

Then I applied the ideas in Atomic Habits: small changes add up over time. I have seen that shifts and changes by one degree at a time will take you to an entirely new destination.

I recently was interviewed by Joanna Bischoff from Home Life Purpose Blog. We discussed a piece of my journey in hitting burnout and how I began to make changes.

Here is some of that conversation for you.

I’m learning how to create a restful atmosphere and make space for life-giving activities in my busy schedule. While I tend to be overly productive and not always focused on fun, each step towards slowing down is a positive change.

As I explore these ideas, I gather questions and solutions to share with you.

Balancing productivity, relaxation, and rest is a challenging journey for everyone.
